Do You Have a Comfort Zone

Comfort Zone

I am going to come clean…I am an introvert and I like my comfort zone.  There I said it!  As an introvert we seem to think life is so much easier when we stay in our comfort zone. And yes, some days it is.

If you have dreams and goals and things you want to see and do, well you have to come out of that comfort zone.  It’s not easy, of course nothing worth having comes easy.  However, if you just take that first step…which is always the hardest, it does get a little easier.

Have you ever thought about when you were younger and dating or that first job interview? Those are times where you stepped out of your comfort zone.  And guess what…you didn’t die!  In fact I bet if you really took a look back, you would probably laugh at yourself at how silly you felt.  I know I have…like what was I afraid of?

Wisdom comes with age.  Wisdom tells me there is so much more out there, when I step out of my comfort zone.  And over that past 3 years I have really been doing that…and it feels incredibly scary some days.  But it also gives me a sense of accomplishment and that feels good.

Recently I stepped out of my comfort zone when I was asked to be a story teller/speaker at a business retreat that I was attending.  Initially I was going to say no to the request…but something inside of me was screaming to say yes…and I did.

I arrived a day early to relax so that I would not be so nervous…and by doing that I was able to connect with some of the other attendees.  When I got up to the front of the room to tell my story, surprisingly I was not nervous.  I was able to speak like I had been doing this for years.  That was such an incredible feeling.  It makes me want to come out of my comfort zone more and do more things.

I know I will step out more, but in baby steps.  I had a friend tell me to get comfortable with being uncomfortable...and ya know what?  It gets easier the more I do it.

What about you?  Are you an introvert?  Or do things like public speaking come easy for you?  I would love to hear from you.

  • That image we seem to have in our heads about what makes us uncomfortable is usually so huge and when we finally take that leap in ourselves we look around and tell ourselves now why was that so bad?
Thank you for this- really resonated with me.

  • I can relate so much! I’m an introvert as well but find when I do step out of my comfort zone and meet new people, I am always happy I did it.
