Bringing Home the Bacon

bringing home the bacon

I had a friend mention a TV commercial that aired when we were growing up…you may remember it as well… Enjoli Perfume commercial with a woman singing “I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in the pan, and never, never let you forget you’re a man.  Cause I’m a Woman”. Lol, I bet you are now signing this commercial jingle in your head… sorry!

The message screamed at us, yelling how we could be super women, super wife, super mom, super worker, super daughter, super sister, super super super…. at everything.

Whew, does that leave you exhausted? I know it does me.

And I know for a fact that I tried, Lord knows... I tried to do it all. I mean, after all that is what we were taught! Right?

Oh, and I got a kick out of the laundry tablets that were supposed to make our life easier… then we needed Calgon... to take us away... but I digress.

Girlfriend, look at us now!  For the past 2 decades we have been working so hard to be that super woman.  Well... I am here to tell ya we are NOT super woman, hell even the lady in the commercial was not a super woman… if you geaux back watch the commercial…they cloned her so she could geaux to work, fry bacon and take care of her man!  I mean, seriously? What the hell?

Let’s rewrite our story shall we?  We know we can do whatever we choose to focus on, but we don’t have to do it all.  We can care for ourselves without feeling guilty.

So what do you say whose with me?

Until Next Time, Blessings and Bubbles,

  • I’d sat it a little differently… I can be everything I want to be… I simply have no desire to be everything to and for everyone.

  • I’m with you! I remember that commercial, and I remember feeling inadequate when I didn’t measure up. It took years to realize I can be anything I want, but not everything I want.
